Squirrel Trapping Tips.?

Anything on catching squirrels, bait, lures, ect. Thanks!Squirrel Trapping Tips.?
Use a running stick/ladder stick. Find a tree squirrels live in and lean a long stick (6-8 feet, and about as an inch or so around) and lean it up againt their tree. They'll start to use it to access their tree. (Don't ask me why, I don't know why they do, only that they WILL use it.) After they've been using a couple of days tie a series of running loops/nooses (about 2 to 3 inches in diameter) around the ladder stick. As they run up the ladder stick their little heads will go through the noose, but tehir shoulders will stop them. They'll lose their balance and fall off and hang themselves.

It's a perfect way to trap squirrels without damaging their meat or their hides (if you're after those.) Just remember to check your traps daily. (The lwa usually requires a licensed trapper to check his traps daily.)

My grandfather taught me this and I guarantee it WILL work.Squirrel Trapping Tips.?
Use what they are naturaly feeding on in that area. Ive caught over 400 in the past few years. i have pecans trees in the yard so i use pecans in the shell (they won't eat it out of the shell).
Use a live trap. (Although I have had many squirrels stumble into my raccoon traps It is pretty messy) I seem to have the best luck either with peanuts or with ear corn.
Here is the best way i have ever seen:

Ok I grew up in the country and this was my childhood entertainment....

first thing you do is get a RAT TRAP. not a mouse trap they are to small to efectivly kill a squirl. Second thing you do is thread a small screw eye(like the one on the back of a picture hanger) into the base of the rat trap just infront of the bait/trigger bar. you then put a peice of heavy nylon fishing line from the trigger ,through the screw eye and to a small pine cone or a small stick. KEEP THE LINE AS SHORT AS POSABLE. then smeer the pine cone with nutella(chocolate, hazelnut sandwich spread).THEY LOVE NUTELLA!!!.

OK here is what happens.

when a squirl finds a potential food item the first thing they do is. You guesed it. they pick it UP! when this happens the nylon line pulls down on the trigger bar thus releaseing the trap. I have hunted theese little vermin since I was 8 or 9 and this rigging works the best.

If you are however less mechanicaly inclined simply use a twist tie to hold the pine cone on the trap. This causes the squirl to fight with the cone to get it of the trap. Some times they pick the cone up and force the retaining bar further onto the trigger ,eat THROUGH the twist tie, wire and steal the bait leaving the trap unsprung. Also if the bait item is to large it can interfear with the traps closure. this can also happen if the nylon fishing line is too long as the squirl can get the bait stuck under the kill bar befor it springs.
Box trap with peanut butter and birdseed mixed together. Leave only one end open. Barring that, make a perfect dirthole set for a fox and they'll be tripping over themselves to get into that. I liked that running pole set above. If seen the little buggers do the same thing and that never dawned on me. But alas, can't do that here in NY...

The best method for trapping squirrels is the Kania Trap 2000. It is the number # 1 squirrel trap in the UK.

It produces a humane instant kill. Rat traps and others do not meet humane instant kill standards.

It is effecient, species specific.

Check them out http://www.kania.net

You have to buy them on line through mail order
use a Have-a-Hart live trap...you have to remember, they are just rodents..that is,tree rats..use the same bait..I like peanut butter and corn smeared on the bait tray...you will clean up
