Yesterday I witnessed him bring down the cage and empty the dead squirrel into a bucket in the back of his truck. There is a squirrel in the trap now and the police said it is legal to trap squirrels but they are being left to die for 2-3 days at a time. Isn't this an inhumane way to control the squirrel population? I know I saw something just like this on animal cops, what can I do, who can I contact? I contacted the humane society they directed me to the humane officer at the police station who was said to be ';looking into it'; I am so upset, I guess you cna say I am a squirrel lover! ThanksIs it legal in wisconsin to let squirrels die in traps on the roof of the house?
I live in minnesota, and as far as i know, in our 5 state area, squirrels are considered rodents and can be shot, trapped, killed in any manner...possible excluding poison. Squirrels eat away at eves on houses and can wreak havock on phone lines, ISP connections and any other wires and ';obsticals'; in thier paths. I undersatand why your neighbor would want to rid his yard of them. I also understand that letting them die for 2-3 days seems inhumane. the only ';humane'; way i could see in getting them away is using ';live'; traps and relocating them. Squirrels , however are over abudance and many times less is best. Im on then fence about this one;)Is it legal in wisconsin to let squirrels die in traps on the roof of the house?
would you prefer some one picking them off with a 22? your options are letting them die in traps, poisoning them, or picking them off one by one with a gun. since guns arent allowed to be fired within several hundred feet of houses in wisconsin, thats not an option. poison could be found by any number of things including household pets, so thats not an option. traps however can be made specificly for squrrels. so yeah, theres your answer
Join Peta and Im sure you will have thousands of people protesting your neighbor! When my cats catch a mouse, I get it from them and take it 10 miles from our house and release it. We have lived in this house for 3 years and were not warned about the squirrels that have obviously plagued this house for who knows how long. I've used a humane trap and caught and released 4 red squirrels. We sealed all the holes in the foundation with expanding foam now have to work on the roof even though the previous owners did that seeing how there is chicken wire in so many areas. Now I'm ready to kill the furry cretins. They spend hours chewing and rolling nuts around during the night. I can't believe there is absolutely no way to poison them. I am ready to take a nail gun and get them where I hear them chew. I am desperate and fed up. I almost don't even care if they die in the house and stink it up. I have lived with that smell before when something died in our walls at a previous apartment. I don't care. What on earth can I do? If you're going to tell me to continue using the humane trap or chastise me for wanting to kill them then go harass someone else. I have a baby and am also scared to death that these vermin will chew through wires causing a fire. How to trap and kill and get rid of squirrels forever. ?
1st thing you need to find out where thy are getting in and out. then chase them out and plug the hole. any left inside will die eventually, or you can trap it. also you can hire a exterminator, who will probably use poisonHow to trap and kill and get rid of squirrels forever. ?
Trap them(like 5-6 of them). If you have squirrels in your home you need to resolve that problem ASAP as they will damage your home beyond recognition. This is the only way to keep them from coming back. Many people will tell you that you can relocate them, but they will ALWAYS come back. Good luckHow do you trap, and dispose of squirrels ?
Use a Havaheart trap to catch them. that is the best way in a populated area. Once you have them, the best way to dispose of them is to eat the little bastards. They are delicious. Fry the young ones and make stew or squirrel and dumplings from the older and tougher ones. Turn them from a pain in the azz into a series of delicious meals.
I have a pellet rifle and I eat them.

Regardless of what some think I have always eaten squirrels.

It is a cultural thing, my family had squirrel anytime we could get them. Coat the paper towel roll with peanut butter. Then lay a board from the ground to the lip of the barrel. The squirrel will climb up the board jump down to the peanut butter, rool off the paper towl / pvc pipe into the water and drown.

Here is the same idea with a bucket for mice;

http://byteshuffler.com/rospo/blog/uploa鈥?/a>

It helps to pour some cooking oil on the water, so the tree rat gets coated with it and cant get a grip on the barrel wall. But be careful no little kids can climb up on the barrel. To make it child proof fasten some heavy wire fencing over it and the rat will crawl through the fence wire but kids can鈥檛 fall in.

Why don鈥檛 some tree huggers understand that any animal can become a menace? And relocating squirrels in the late fall is a death sentence because they no longer have the time to store their food for the winter. Also they are territorial and the tree rats that live where you dump some off will run them out. That鈥檚 another reason they come back.

And yes animal control trappers kill the tree rat at least every one I knew did. Drowning is far better than starvation.

And as said NEVER poison! Anything could eat that poison and die including kids. Last year I had a little luck with rat traps, but my dilemma is what to bait them with. Peanut butter and cheese just melts in our hot AZ sun (it is 9:30am here and already at least 80 degrees in the sun). I tried peanuts, but Curve Bill Thrasher (a local bird) comes along and pecks at each peanut, setting off the trap. So what can I bait with that won't melt and won't be attractive to the birds? They will flock to both of these.
Well when I first got my live trap, I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. It turned out that it was not so much the bait, but my method that was hurting me. Here is what you do (if it is a cage like, live trap, with a trip door).....

1. Take a normal 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper %26amp; fold it to size, so it is like a floor at the back half of the trap.

2. Take small bits of apple and put peanut butter on one side. Use the peanut butter as a glue to stick the apple chunks to the paper. It is critical to make them walk around inside the trap, so put the apple bits in the back corners and off center along the back.

3. * MUST DO* Put the trap in the box that it came in, with only the front door sticking out of the box. The box with stop them from reaching through. If you do not do this, you will find an empty trap with no bait inside. If you threw the box away, then use anything as a trap cover (an old pillow case, plastic trash bag, will do the trick, but the box is best).

4. Their favorite foods were peanut butter on anything and ketchup on the bone of fried chicken legs. They would chew the bones for hours, which wore down their teeth. That was a good thing since their teeth continue to grow as long as they are alive. Without something hard to gnaw on their teeth would soon become so long they could no longer eat. So we made a trap that worked every time. Here is what we did.

Make a rectangular box out of 2 X 4's. The box should be about 9 inches wide and and high and about 24 inches long. Cover the box in chicken wire (the kind with small holes). On one end of the box, you will need to leave open and build a door. mount the door with hinges so the door swings open on the inside of the box. Now on the inside of the box you will need to make a small platform that can swivel back and forth. (think of a teeter totter)

Now to use this, you will need to put a small amount of peanut butter on the platform. open the trap door and place a small piece of coat hanger from the door to the platform (this will keep the door open). As the squirrel enters the box it will go on the platform to eat the bait. this will make the coat hanger fall and the door will close behind the squirrel.

works every time.

philosophy
Kinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06207583778394694249noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5285441764490056597.post-38812927983041675672010-01-18T02:52:00.003-08:002010-01-18T02:52:54.698-08:00Need clarification on squirrel trapping?I've been trying to learn some basic survival stuff, dead falls, snares, fire starting and so on. I understand that dead falls are illegal unless in a survival situation but i can build and see them work without actually killing anything. Snares on the other hand can't really be perfected unless you actually trap something or fail to trap something and learn what you did wrong.

So i set out to catch some squirrels.

I want to be legal about it so i looked up the hunting/trapping regs and seasons which is where i get confused.

Snares are ok to use here and if i hunt/trap on my own land i don't need a license or permit but the actual hunting/trapping seasons are confusing me.

Here(Ohio if i makes a difference) squirrels have a hunting season but nothing is mentioned at all about squirrels on the list of trapping seasons. So does that mean a person is free to use traps all year round or would you just follow the hunting season even if using traps?Need clarification on squirrel trapping?
you should be able to trap them during hunting season with no problemsKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06207583778394694249noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5285441764490056597.post-30962927660126616062010-01-18T02:52:00.002-08:002010-01-18T02:52:38.725-08:00My havahart squirrel traps wont work -_-?i have two of them' one's baited with two peanut butter crackers and some dryed corn sprinkled on. the other with a big pile of dryed corn on the bait tray...they LOVE both of them so i dont need baiting information...and theyre pretty much big enough to fit a squirrel..so i have no idea how they get out!!

ive resorted to camping outside with three sets of covers, a flash-light, fan, and a bag of partially stale lays original chips; ....in a tent, with a hollow tipped BB gun...

i thought bringing my puppy (beagle/weiner-dog/terrior) out into the tent to keep me company.. ...we got through the night without her wanting to escape and prance around the yard.. but when it hit daybreak she started barking at the squirrels!!! i managed to keep her quiet until i heard one trap go off, then i looked and it ESCAPED! :(

they keep escaping no matter what i do!

even if theyre young/small adults :(,

help! before the squirrels start to figure out my plan! D:My havahart squirrel traps wont work -_-?
you probably are using too small a trap...the squirrel sized trap 1030 is actually too small. The squirrel is startled by the trap going off and jumps backwards in a flash enough for the door to not lock..the 1040, looks too big but the squirrels can't shoot backwards in time to keep the door from lockingMy havahart squirrel traps wont work -_-?
Good luck to themKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06207583778394694249noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5285441764490056597.post-50977830905272575322010-01-18T02:52:00.001-08:002010-01-18T02:52:23.014-08:00If you Saw Sarah Palin carrying a Net that has a Squirrel with a suit & hat on trapped in the net what ->?Would you do?If you Saw Sarah Palin carrying a Net that has a Squirrel with a suit %26amp; hat on trapped in the net what -%26gt;?
I'd say lady, you shouldn't be treating that squirrel like that because he's smarter and more qualified for your job. Now let him go!If you Saw Sarah Palin carrying a Net that has a Squirrel with a suit %26amp; hat on trapped in the net what -%26gt;?
Unlikely as she tends to shoot and not trap. More likely you would be on the menu at the Alaska governor's mansion if you got within her sights. But what would the quintessential urbane squirrel from New York be doing in the boondocks of Alaska in the gun sights of their gun happy governor?
I've had a grudge against Sarah Palin ever since I told someone with a Sarah Palin avatar to eff off and ask her homework questions somewhere else, and they reported my a**, so I'd probably have to dust off the ol' taser...again.....
I would call someone to take her away! I think she's crazy enough for that to happen already though. Ooh and i'd make the squirrel in my criminal side kick and only give him nuts.
I would say,

Miss Sarah please let my friend Scooter go,don't feed him to the mooses(is that a word?)lol.

then I would cut a hole in the net so said squirrel can run away.
I should report her for felonious squirrel abuse. Then I would start a Free Scooter movement. That or club her.
I would shave the ridiculous bee hive off her head, and free the Squirrel with the cool fedora.
I voted fer her but if she ever did that, I'd cut the neck (um wait. Cut the net, LOLOL) and pull her hair out.
Poor squirrel. Sarah Palin had better watch out! =O
Let said squirrel out and put her in there. How would you carry that? Couldn't of course-where was she going anyway?
C'mon Scooter !! She's not gonna hurt ya :)

Now, Bullwinkle the Moose, may be in trouble.
%26gt;=O How dare she trap a Squirrel with a suit %26amp; hat on!!!! I'd tackle her and set the squirrel free. =]
Run at her with scissors to free that squirrel!
I'd set the Squirrel free, then let karma pay Palin back. 'Cause sometimes karma can be a real beach.
call Bill Clinton
For sure, she would get a black eye as I saved my favorite squirrel!
my mangina hurts
My eyes would get big then take a picture
is that me lunch
Point my finger and laughKinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06207583778394694249noreply@blogger.com0
